Many of you have expressed interest in critique opportunities — either finding a critique partner or group. We would like to help you connect with other West Central NY SCBWI members to find your PERFECT FIT.  Yay!

We are offering two Zoom Speed Critique Meets where you share a bit of information about yourself in the form of a brief Writer Profile or an Illustrator Profile (details below) and learn a bit about others who are also interested in seeking a perfect critique fit. After your brief share-out, we’ll place your email contact information in the chat. Interested parties will connect with you — as they wish.  And you will be able to connect with others — as you wish. Easy!

ALSO — Prior to sharing your profile details, we will also briefly present a few suggestions for launching and running your critique partnerships or groups, including:

  1. Helpful Hints for Success
  2. Resources

Everyone who registers is expected to participate. The Link for the Zoom will be send out by Saturday, May 29th.

Writer Profile –  This resembles the well-known “4 minutes of fame” sessions at many of the national SCBWI Conferences. We will help keep track of time and offer gentle nudging as needed.

Task 1: Present Yourself. Your “Writer Profile” is a quick ice-breaker introduction where you’ll share about yourself for no more than 2 minutes. It could include:

  • One brief sentence describing your style or strength as a writer (tone, themes, etc.).
  • One brief sentence describing your ideal critique partner.
  • One brief sentence describing your writing/publishing
  • Your preference in critique formats: in-person, on-line, frequency, partner, small group, etc.

Task 2: Share 250 Words

  • Be prepared to read a 125-word writing sample for no more than 2 minutes.

Illustrator Profile –  This resembles the well-known illustrator sessions at many of the national SCBWI Conferences. We will help keep track of time and offer gentle nudging as needed.

Task 1: Present Yourself. Your “Illustrator Profile” is a quick ice-breaker introduction where you’ll share about yourself for no more than 2 minutes. It could include:

  • One brief sentence describing your style or strength as an illustrator (style, themes, media, influences, favorite illustrators, etc.).
  • One brief sentence describing your ideal critique partner.
  • One brief sentence describing your illustrating/publishing
  • Your preference in critique formats: in-person, on-line, frequency, partner, small group, etc.

Task 2: Share 1 – 3 Pieces of Work

  • Be prepared to share 1 – 3 pieces for no more than 2 minutes. Be prepared to show on camera (as screen sharing will NOT be enabled) 1 – 3 hard copy pieces of artwork.

Please be aware that any of your follow-up critique activities will be independent of SCBWI. We are unable to oversee, manage, or assist with your critique activities in any way.  Likewise, we are not permitted to release member information to others outside of this Zoom session.

If finding a critique partner or group is your mission,

you won’t want to miss this Speed Critique Meet!
